self doubt

“Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts.” -Buddha

Fear  can stop you dead in your tracks. All your hopes, dreams, goals, aspirations can be put on hold indefinitely if you let fear take hold of you.

The very confidence you strive for in your relationships, your work, your efforts in the gym, can all be taken away with a single look, a comment, or simply the insecurity that there is some force out there at work against us.

So much of what we believe can befall us, never actually come to fruition. Have you noticed that the majority of what we fear might happen if we put into motion the desires in our hearts generally does not play into itself as a factor?

Or worse yet, we reserve ourselves from ever making progress to those very dreams we play in our minds like a movie because we place too much value on the effect of failure.

Wouldn’t it be so much better to serve ourselves with the reality that perhaps we never truly fail but in fact are always successful in creating a result in everything we do? This result might not be the path we are seeking or the fortunes we desire, but they exist… they are real. And in this result we are faced with a choice of how we perceive it.

Wouldn’t it serve us better to see in every result that negates our path an equal seed of growth for ourselves? Even in the worst of situations we have learned something have we not?

So what is a good way to turn this around? To discover ourselves and believe in ourselves?

To remove that self doubt.

Well, For starters you can begin by trusting more in yourself. The world is full of opportunities and its okay to find those that serve you, that build joy in your life. Much of self doubt comes from a gut feeling that the opportunity you are building is not of value to yourself. So take a good look in the mirror. You are where you are because of who you are. To change where you are you must first make a change within. And that begins with believing in who you are and where you are in life. Or at least where you are going.

Your model of the world is what will shape your reality. So do you choose to see the world as a place that is aggressively against you or one that is full of vibrant opportunity that only requires that you first begin down that path for doors to open.

Your ability to digest this concept into your consciousness along with your physical and emotional state will set you on a course to personal discovery, to faith within yourself.

Decide what it is you want to focus on with every situation that presents itself to you. Define what it actually means to you when you absorb this information and decide what it is you are going to do about it.

Much of self doubt is self imposed by focusing on things that push you down rather than pull you up.

If you are making strides in the gym but are not as satisfied in your appearance because you don’t have the chiseled features of some of your peers. Know that you are not in competition with them. You are in competition with yourself. Make every day about becoming a better version of you.

Take gratitude in all things that lift your experience up. Even the little things deserve some praise. By directing your attention to these you will fill with confidence that the world is at your shoulder and not at your back. You can see that your shift in perception has allowed you to choose from life’s experiences.

Overcoming self doubt is about a lack of inner resource. Its not about getting the girl, getting the job, getting the dream car. None of these things will serve any more than a temporary distraction. Those are all nice things but true belief within your self comes in accepting yourself, shortcoming’s and all.

Don’t let anyone dictate your self worth or define your happiness.

“If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.” – Lao Tzu

Be present. Learn to let go of the past. Most of self doubt exist because you have build up situations and experience that forces you to reflect in a negative way. Identify all those thoughts, people and events that are holding you back and let them go. They no longer serve you.

Lastly, be willing to go on life’s adventure. This requires making choices. We have all heard that you don’t have to see the whole staircase to take the first step. Be willing to jump right into the mix of things. Your muse will meet you on the path and never at the starting line.
