energy

Looking to give your day an energy jump start? Maybe coffee isn’t your thing, but it will likely make the list anyways. Lets see if we can add a few more choices on how to ramp up your day.

We have all experienced days that drag. We might feel warn out by work, obligations, taking care of the kids, could be any number of reasons why we feel an energy vampire took every ounce of motivation from us before we even woke up. It could even be that we did not get enough sleep.

What ever the reason, its pretty easy to pop open an energy drink or wash down an energy supplement. Problem is, most of those energy supplements and drinks on the market contain all sorts of bad chemicals and neurotoxins that only exasperate the very conditions that cause you to be sleepy in the first place.

Now is the time to turn things around and try some alternatives. Time to get back those last few hours of the day and perform at a higher level with more energy. Time for some healthy alternatives.

WATERMELONS

I had thought to make the first food on the list water, but i decided i would catch you by surprise. Watermelon is 90 percent water so…. I still got you. Staying hydrated is key to keeping your energy levels up. Even if you are mildly dehydrated you can lose a lot of that energy, along with any elevated mood you might have.

ALMONDS

You might not feel any immediate zip in your day as you would if you downed a red bull. But almonds are high in magnesium which is responsible for over 300 biochemical reactions in the body including breaking glucose down into energy. Don’t like almonds? Try hazelnuts or cashews.

OATS

We all used to snack on these as kids, which may very well explain why we bounced off the walls so much. Oats have soluble fiber which is a very good thing because it slows down the carbohydrates from being absorbed which in turn keeps that blood sugar up.

SWEET POTATOES

This one took me a while to wrap my head around. See I always preferred the white or red potatoes and skipped on the sweet potatoes. The reason… too sweet. But with such a low calorie count and high carb ratio it definitely packs the energy needed to keep on trucking. Though I would suggest you try slicing them up into fries, cooking them in coconut oil and dipping them in a honey mustard. Best way I have found to turn these sweeties into a healthy snack.
