The BJJ classes at TMT are perfect for anyone looking to grasp a general understanding of “ground fighting” while discovering Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
BJJ focuses on using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. Since Brazilian JiuJitsu focuses on submissions without the use of striking, BJJ is for everyone of all ages and abilities! Training BJJ at Tiger allows you to focus on learning the many different positions, techniques, and skills required to become successful in this extremely popular martial art.
In the Gi classes, participants are required to wear the traditional BJJ uniform called a “Gi”. Techniques in this class are taught in the traditional methods of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, in which the use of a gi is necessary. It is often agreed upon by the highest ranking grapplers and BJJ practitioners in the world that practicing BJJ while using the Gi is an essential part of becoming an elite level grappler. While practicing BJJ while using the gi, the student can then achieve a “belt ranking”. The color of one’s belt reflects their level of skill in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Class traditionally starts with a warm up, cardio training, technical training, sparring, and cool down. The morning classes are for all levels and the 9:00-10:00 class is Gi only and wearing a Gi is mandatory. The 10:00 – 11:00 class is Nogi (wearing a Gi is optional) and for those who want to work more on the technical aspects of their Brazilian Jiu Jitsu game. In the sport of MMA, many students choose to not wear the gi in preparations for specializing in their sport. In these classes techniques will focus on using BJJ without wearing a Gi.
The 18:15-19:00 afternoon class is focusing on the fundamentals and suitable for beginners of the sport, the 19:00 – 20:00 class is a bit more advanced but still all levels are welcome. Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon classes we train without the Gi and Tuesday and Thursday in the Gi.
Gi’s are available for rental and purchase in the TMT gear store. A student may wear his own Gi if they would like.
