Tiger Muay Thai & MMA Phuket fighter Tommy Yang is in his last week of training before heading to the Abu Dhabi World Pro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship tournament held in the United Arab Emirates.

Early in March, Tommy won his way to the UAE by taking the gold medal in the blue belt absolute division. In the absolute division, there is no weight class; Tommy beat every blue belt at the competition. His gold medal came with an all-expenses paid trip to Abu Dhabi to represent Southeast Asia in the blue belt division.

The Abu Dhabi Pro held 24 trials in 22 countries over the past six months in order to bring the best Jiu-Jitsu players from all over the world to one tournament on April 12th. Tommy is one of 24 blue belts from all over the world to get the chance to compete for the world championship. To say this is a “big” tournament is an understatement; it is one of the most prestigious BJJ tournaments of the year.

Tommy is being hosted by Tiger Muay Thai & MMA Phuket affiliate Sparta Muay Thai and MMA in Kuala Lumpur. As part of preparation for the tournament, Tommy has traveled to KL in order get mentally and physically ready for the competition. While in KL, Tommy and fellow TMT blue belt, Alex Schild, have been training intensely with the goal of Tommy bringing home the gold. The two have also enlisted the help of fellow Trial winners of the Marcos Escobar Jiu-Jitsu Team in KL, who is sending 3 competitors of their own to compete in Abu Dhabi.

Despite the rigorous training regiment that Tommy is under, today, him and the Sparta team took the time to give back to the community and made a trip to the Angel Children’s Orphanage Home in downtown KL. The group went there to give donations and ended up spending over two hours playing and talking with the kids.

With just 3 days before Tommy is set to weigh in at the tournament, he is feeling ready to compete and show the world what he can do.
