Just a few days ago during the IKF Championships amateur Muay Thai event, another Muay Thai fighter passed away while in the Thai Bxing ring.  Women’s Muay Thai fighter Adrienne Simmons was knocked unconscious in her Muay Thai fight in Florida, USA.  The blow to her head caused her brain to hemmorage and bleed causing it to swell and Adrienne to fall into a coma and she passed away s at the age of 34-years-of-age.

Simmons won the Silver medal at the 2008 IKF Championships and was an active fighter.  Simmons was attending Emory for a Master’s degree in Education and  she also enjoyed working with underprivileged children in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  She was the type of person that wanted to make a positive change the world and help others in need.

A fund has been set up to help pay for the medical and funeral arrangements from this tragic loss.  Anyone wishing to donate to a worthy cause for a true fighter in the sport we love please see here  To donate click here Your donations are greatly appreciated.

Journalist Joe Miller wrote an article from behind the scenes with a description of the night–well worth reading.

Any one competing in Combat Sports realizes the risk of injury, or permanent damage done to the body, but nobody anticipates death. Prayers and condolences go out to the surviving family, and Adrienne’s boyfriend Chike Lindsay-Ajudua.
